This project is for supporting a six year irrigation and drainage investment programme. Scope of works for the consultants includes assistance to PIU in planning, management and administration of the whole project, the preparation of all necessary design documents and cost estimates, tender documents as well as construction supervision and preparation of O&M plans conforming to international design and engineering standards and ecological requirements of the Republic of Kazakhstan for rehabilitation of 21 sites covering an area of approximately 36000 ha. The rehabilitation works will improve reliability and efficiency of irrigation water use, involving irrigation rehabilitation and installation of sprinkler systems; and will reduce water logging and salinity, involving rehabilitation of collector drains and on-farm drainage improvements.

Consulting services include the assistance to PIU with:
– Project planning, management and administration,
– Project identification and preparation of pre-feasibility reports,
– Preparation of feasibility studies for the sub-projects,
– Fields surveys and final designs,
– Preparation of tender documents,
– Preparation of Environmental Impact Assessments,
– Procurement of works, goods and services
– Construction supervision, on the job training
– Development and implementation of farmers’ participation procedures and establishment of Water User Associations (WUAs)
– Preparation of detailed operation and maintenance plans
– Establishment of a pilot for irrigation system management transfer
– Project monitoring, GIS and Training
