Narrative Description of Project:

Murwani Dam is located on the Wadi Murwani which is in the Makkah province, 100 km north-east of Jeddah city in the western part of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Type of dam is earth and rock fill dam with asphaltic concrete core having 183.6 hm3 total reservoir volume and 2762 km2 catchment area. The dam is 61 m high from thalweg and 101 m heigh from foundation and its purpose is recharge of aquifer and flood protection. Reservoir volume for flood control is 156 hm3, spillway capacity is 4139 m3/s, diversion capacity is 1387 m3/s and maximum operation level is 241.80 m.a.s.l.

The construction works of Murwani Dam has been awarded to Yüksel Construction Company, Turkey by the Ministry of Water and Energy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The contractual construction period is 60 months and it has been started in June 2004 and the dam construction was completed in July 2010.

Description of Actual Services Provided by TEMELSU:
Detailed designs for all construction activities of Yüksel Construction Company were prepared by Temelsu. During the course of construction duration of 60 months, Temelsu performed the following services:

A) Review and revision of the contractual final
design.
B) Scope of Detailed Designs:
– Asphaltic concrete cored dam, 101 m high from foundation and 3 closure dykes at left abutment
– Ungated spillway weir of 162 m width and 413 m long spillway discharge channel and a stilling basin.
– 542 m long diversion tunnel having 7 m inner diameter and cofferdams.
– Bottom outlet structures, penstocks and valves.
– All access and haul roads.
