Detailed Narrative Description of Project:
Fourth East-West Highway Improvement Project (EWHIP-4), financed by the World Bank, involves the construction of Chumateleti-Khevi section of the E-60 Highway. Chumateleti-Khevi section of the highway starts at the eastern part of the existing Rikoti tunnel and ends near village Khevi. This part of the corridor crosses Rikoti pass. Construction of the new tunnel(s) and other structures requires traffic capacity expansion, including artificial structures in a difficult topographic and geological conditions without interrupting the traffic flow. Climatic peculiarity and geology of the mentioned sections of E-60 highway have different engineering-geological properties that require non-homogenous and irregular geological processes.
The 2×2 lanes road is comprised of two carriageways, one of which is 11.6 km and the other one is 8.6 km. Project involves 18 bridges with a total length of 2073 m and 3 tunnel with a total length of 2600 m.
