Narrative Description of Project:

Kiğı Dam being a zoned rockfill dam with 170 m height above the foundation is located on Peri River in the Eastern Region of Turkey. Volume of reservoir is 507 million m3. Dam has an embankment volume of 16 million m3. Imperviousness is provided by a wide central clay core and supported with a grout curtain which is to be performed through 3 levels grouting galleries at each abutment and a cut and cover gallery at the foundation.

The diversion during construction is made by means of 2 tunnels each with an internal diameter of 5.50 m with a total discharge capacity of 684 m3/sec. A bottom outlet valve chamber is provided in each tunnel, equipped with a 2.0 m Howell-Bunger operation valve and 1.60×2.00 m slide gate.

Spillway structure located on the left bank is designed for 2130 m3/sec, having 4 opening each equipped with a radial gate of 7.00 m width, 10.50 m height together with stoplog gates. The ogee-crested weir is 38.15 m long followed by a chute channel of 37.00/25.50 m wide and 570 m long with a slope of 20%. Along chute channel, 6 number of aeration structures are located with 60 m intervals to prevent cavitation. Spillway channel ends with a flip bucket structure for energy dissipation.

Power system is composed of a concrete lined power tunnel of 8127 m long and 5.0 m inner diameter with an intake structure and gate shaft at the upstream and a surge tank and valve chamber at the downstream end. It continues with 164 m long penstock line up to an outdoor powerhouse comprising 3 Francis units with a total installed capacity of 140 MW. Total energy production of the project is 450 GWh/year.

Description of Actual Services provided by TEMELSU:

The revision of final design of dam body, diversion structures, spillway and other appurtenant structures, detailed designs of all structures and final designs of hydromechanical equipment included in the project are prepared by TEMELSU. Consultancy services are also provided by TEMELSU for the Client during the course of construction.
