This Project covers two stages: Assignment A and Assignment B.
Assignment A comprises feasibility studies for :
• the South Karakalpakstan main Collector Drain (SKMCD) and
• the Karateren Pump Station;
Further developing the technical, economic and environmental base of the following with a view to confirming their
suitability for implementation following implementation of the SKMCD and the Karateren Pump Station:
• Remodelling Sichankul Collector
• Remodelling KC-3
• Dengizkul Parallel Collector Scheme
• Sichankul-Sultandag-Dengizkul Sink System;
• Preparing action plans for the improvement of management and O&M of irrigation and drainage systems, including
• Identification and cost-estimate of priority infrastructure and equipment at critical locations to enhance monitoring and control of irrigation and drainage water (throughout project area) and
• reduce high and localized irrigation water losses in South Karakalpakstan;
• Subject to technical and economic feasibility being proven, preparing detailed designs and tender documents for:
• (re-) construction the South Karakalpakstan Main Collector
• replacement of the Karateren pump station, and
• identified priority works and goods for improvement of O&M of the irrigation and drainage systems sufficient for about two year’s worth of construction work
• Assist the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) in Tashkent in:
• Establishment and operating branches in each of Karakalpakstan, Bukhara and Kashkadarya
• preparation of a borrowers Project Implementation Plan, including procurement plan and invitations to bid
for goods and works
• preparation of a monitoring and evaluation system for project implementation monitoring, and
consultations with stakeholders and beneficiaries
• Determining project costs, impact, benefits, and carrying out economic analysis.
