Objective of the project is to undertake a feasibility study for stopping water leakage from the various sections
of the 270 km long Kazandjik-Kizyletrek Canal, which is the continuation of the Karakum Canal (total length is
1100 km from Amudarya River to Kazandjik), and determination of the amount of land to be irrigated in the
south western part of Turkmenistan and the amount of crops to be produced if water leakage is stopped
from the canal. Total irrigation area is 34 000 ha.

The services provided in this project are as follows:
• Inventory and review of existing data.
• Identification of leakage problem in detail by evaluating geological, geotechnical and hydrogeological
conditions.
• Technical, economical and financial viabilities of the methods for prevention of leakage.
• Determination of the amount of land to be irrigated without and
with water saving through the preventation of leakage.
• Land classification, drainage, on-farm development studies.
• Agricultural economy survey and determination of crop
patterns.
• Determination of irrigation water requirements.
• Evaluation of environmental impacts.
• Estimation of costs and benefits and evaluation of economical
and financial justification of the project.
