The Contract was signed for “Climate Resilient Water Resources Development Project (Phase1), the Consultancy Services for Construction Management and Construction Supervision of Reconstruction of Irrigation Canals” in Kazakhstan (20 May 2026)

Kazakhstan is the ninth largest country in the world by area (2.73 million km2) and the largest landlocked country. Its estimated population is about 20.6 million, and it has the third lowest population density in the world. Agriculture accounts for approximately 68% of the country’s total estimated water use.

Kazakhstan is highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, including increasing heat waves, water shortages, droughts, accelerated glacier melting, glacial lake outburst floods, and the resulting risks of severe floods, mudflows, and landslides. In response to these challenges, and with the support of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), the Government of Kazakhstan has developed the Climate Resilient Water Resources Development Project, aimed at strengthening water resources management and enhancing the resilience of water and agricultural infrastructure in several regions of the country.

The proposed program addresses climate change and water security challenges through the construction of new multipurpose water reservoirs, rehabilitation and reconstruction of existing reservoirs, development of climate-resilient river basin management systems, rehabilitation and modernization of irrigation and drainage infrastructure, and support for sustainable agricultural development.

On 20 May 2026, the Contract for “Climate Resilient Water Resources Development Project (Phase 1), Consultancy Services for Construction Management and Construction Supervision of Reconstruction of Irrigation Canals” was signed in Astana, Kazakhstan, between the JV of “TEMELSU International Engineering Services Inc., as the Lead Company, together with SU-YAPI Engineering and Consulting Inc.” and “RSE Kazvodkhoz under the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan”.
