Narrative Description of Project:

Çatalan Dam is located on Seyhan River and will serve for the flood protection of the city of Adana as well as hydroelectric energy production and irrigation. The height of the dam above the foundation is 82 m (70 m above river bed), crest length 894 m. Embankment volume of the earth and rock fill type dam is 17 million m3, impounding a reservoir of 2.126 billion m3. Diversion during construction has been made through two tunnels, each with an inner diameter of 8.3 m and a length of 900 m, discharging 1654 m3/sec together. Installed capacity of the powerplant is 3×56 MW to produce 570 Gwh annually.

The spillway, designed for a capacity of 10055 m3/sec has 6 openings, each equipped with radial gates of 11.00 width and 15.60 m height. The chute channel lying downstream of the ogee crested weir is 81.00 m wide and 567.00 m long, ending in a stilling basin. The slopes of the chute channel is 0.03 and 0.17, linked by means of a vertical curve
