Muratlı Dam located on the River Çoruh is the last one of the system of dams within Turkish borders. It has a catchment area of 19 748 km2. The dam is an asphaltic concrete faced rock fill type with a height of 44 m. above foundation, a crest length of 438 m. (including concrete structures), embankment volume of 1 981 000 m3. Volume of its reservoir is 74.8 million m3.
and the spillway capacity is 10 961 m3/sec. The main purpose of the dam is the production of 444 GWh of hydroelectric energy through its power plant with 2 units, each with an installed capacity of 57.5 MW. The controlled spillway consists of 4 openings; each equipped with a radial gate 16 m. wide and 17.3 m. high. These openings are separated by 3 piers, each with a width of 5.0 m. A stilling basin 79 m. wide and 140 m. long will be used to dissipate the energy of probable maximum flood.
