Narrative Description of Project:
Upper Kalekoy Dam is an RCC type dam which will be constructed on Murat River for energy production purposes. It has a crest length of 463m, and its height above the foundation is 150 m. The RCC volume of the dam is 2.260.000 m3.The diversion of the river is provided by 2 circular section tunnels with 9,50 m diameter having a total flow rate of 1719 m3/sec. Length of the tunnels are 937 and 842 m.
The spillway consists of 4 openings and has a total discharge capacity of 8777 m3/sec. Each opening, separated from the others by piers, is controlled with 14,00 m wide and 16,00 m tall radial gates. The ogee crested weir is designed for a head of 18,05 m, and is followed by two narrowing type chute channels and flip bucket in the end.
The power plant is equipped with 3 vertical axis Françis turbines with 201,8 MW capacity and 1 vertical axis Françis turbine with 29 MW capacity, thus it has a total installed capacity of 634,4 MW. The annual production will be 1504,7 GWh.
